Joan Jordi Oliver
Saxophonist, composer-performer, improviser
Unsatisfied with the traditional profile of the classical saxophonist and in a constant search of a very personal voice, Joan Jordi Oliver’s musical practices integrate performance, composition, improvisation and electroacoustic and multimedia elements. Mainly focused on the performance of his own music and on improvisation, his principal interests are the exploration of his instrument, re-imaginating the way to play the saxophone, and the relationship in between art and technology. The rediscovery of the voice of the instrument, expanded and transformed through the endless possibilities of the electroacoustic mediums, the exploration of new formats of concerts and the rethink of the concept of performer and performance spaces are also key elements of his work, and make him one of the most multifaceted instrumentalists of his generation.
